CEIC is Planet Passionate about community sustainability initiatives

CEIC has helped to fund four community sustainability initiatives throughout South Wales, thanks to support from Euroclad’s Planet Passionate Community Fund. The fund – which has been offered by Cardiff-based manufacturing company Euroclad since 2021 – is designed to support projects focused on sustainability, biodiversity, skills and education, and health.

This year, CEIC received £8,000 from the fund, which was shared among four initiatives in South Wales, including Holistic Hoarding, the St Mellons Pantry Gardening Club, and the Cardiff Rivers Group.

Holistic Hoarding was supported in launching a pilot study to test the feasibility of a redistribution centre model. The funding allowed it to set up a dedicated space to organise and redistribute reusable items donated by clients with hoarding disorder, with the goal of reducing landfill waste, promoting sustainability, and supporting vulnerable individuals and community groups.

The St Mellons Pantry Gardening Club used the funding to enhance its volunteer-led organic garden, enabling the purchase of new tools, staging, and storage for its greenhouse, along with bark mulch and new planters. These improvements have helped the club increase the amount of fresh, zero-miles produce grown, directly supporting local families facing food insecurity.

For Cardiff Rivers Group, the funding allowed the charity to rent container storage in Cardiff Docks, enabling the storage of scrap metal that is donated to the group for further sale – the group’s main source of income. According to group trustee David King, being able to safely store donations of scrap metal has had a significant impact not only on the finances of Cardiff Rivers Group, but to further charities within the community.

“We are now in the position where we can support other small scale community groups through small donations of cash and items,” he said. “We would like to express our thanks to Euroclad’s Planet Passionate Fund for their ongoing support and help in making what may be a small but tangible step in increasing the reuse of items in Cardiff that would otherwise have been incinerated or gone to landfill.”
